VRKM – Is an MBA Degree Really Worth It?

Should I pursue my Master of Business Administration or Should I Not? This is a problem that occupies the thoughts of a significant number of young professionals in today’s society.

The Master of Business Administration, also known as an MBA, is a graduate degree that, in addition to instructing students in core business ideas, places an emphasis on the development of one’s leadership talents. On the other hand, for the most majority of students, obtaining a master’s degree in business administration delivers considerably more than that. MBAs make it possible to create stronger professional networks, gain access to opportunities for employment, and earn greater earnings than one would otherwise be able to achieve.

Some of these benefits become evident much sooner than the others, but not all of them. Applicants who are successful in getting into highly ranked programmes are given almost immediate access to experienced staff members who are able to assist them in developing connections, and they can anticipate a significant wage increase once they have completed their studies. Graduates from the top colleges in the country typically earn wages that are well into the six figures on average after they enter the workforce.

If, however, you pursue an MBA for the wrong reasons, you run the risk of not achieving the outcomes that you had envisioned for yourself. There are times when the full effects of obtaining an MBA don’t become obvious until a few years after the degree has been attained.

Before deciding whether or not it is worth your while to seek a Master of Business Administration degree, you need to determine where you stand in the equation in terms of the amount of time, money, and effort that is actually required to earn one. This should be done before deciding whether or not it is worthwhile to pursue such a degree.

As the managing director of the Career Management Centre at the Kellogg School of Management, one of the responsibilities that have fallen under my purview over the past ten years has been to provide guidance to students regarding the selection of a career path and to assist potential candidates in doing this evaluation.
